RECORD PLAYERS, PERCUSSION AND SOUND EFFECTS I is the second installment in an ongoing LP series on Drid Machine Records, featuring hand assembled and foil stamped Procédé Heliophore covers, in homage to Philips’ Prospective 21e Siècle series of electroacoustic and avant-garde music from the ‘60s and ‘70s, plus library music style artwork screen printed by Drid Machine. RPPASE I is co-released with Oslo-based label Hærverk Industrier on 15 September 2023.
Shortly after releasing their debut album, Stavanger 11/12.6.2021, on Drid Machine in March 2022, Kjetil Bransdal (record players/sound effects) and Thore Warland (percussion/sound effects) began to record new material. This session introduced a new approach towards their music and resulted in ten shorter and more composed songs. Applying a similar attitude and process to that of library music production, each song is its own discovery with unexpected combinations of subdued aggression, levity and repetition. It's a buffet of fresh and enigmatic soundscapes, hitting you with a multilayered stream of different images.
Before playing bass in the Stavanger-based band Noxagt, Kjetil Brandsdal released a number of self-produced records and tapes in the mid-to-late ‘90s. In addition to his solo work and 20+ years of playing in Noxagt, Kjetil has been active in bands like Ultralyd, No Balls and Clifford Torus. He currently runs the screen-printing and design company Drid Machine and the record label Drid Machine Records.
“Kjetil D Brandsdal’s early music, documented through a string of self-released cassettes and LPs, alongside high-profile releases on Corpus Hermeticum and Ecstatic Peace!, was some of the most singular sound created in the mid-90s free-noise network. Waterlogged, drowsy, and viscous, his home recordings were often so introverted as to appear suffocating. That was part of their charm; internalized visions secreted through the slow gather of audio information.” – Jon Dale, Dusted Magazine.
After five years with intense touring and recording with the loud and complex music of Staer, Thore Warland has been active in numerous ensembles on the European scene of experimental music. He continued his efforts with Staer in Golden Oriole, taking it even further out into unestablished areas. He has marked his territory with his unusual and relentless drumming style. His latest groups include Firmaet Forvoksen, Burning Axis, Plan Affine and Tørrfall.
